Tallink Silja's year 2021 was affected by Corona pandemic and travel restrictions

For the past year, Tallink Grupp recorded a 20.6% decrease in passenger numbers compared to 2020. A total of 2,961,975 passengers traveled aboard the Tallink Silja fleet on the various routes in the northern Baltic Sea region; the number of passengers decreased on all routes. Despite the lower numbers once again, Tallink Silja is looking hopefully to the new year, in which the new shuttle ferry MyStar will start operations on the Helsinki-Tallinn route.

Due to corona, fewer routes and ships in operation

The decline is partly due to the fact that the Latvia-Sweden route was completely shut down and two ships between Finland and Sweden only resumed operations in the second half of the year 2021. Both measures were taken due to the ongoing travel restrictions. However, on one route the number of passengers increased compared to the previous year. After the connection between Tallinn and Stockholm was stopped for almost 1.5 years, operations resumed in July 2021.

The number of passenger vehicles transported also fell to 602,033 (702,702 in 2021). On the other hand, the increase in freight units was very positive.
