Shipping Company Sees Growth in Passenger Traffic
Tallink Silja Line recorded a significant increase in passenger numbers in the second quarter of 2025: a total of 1,488,128 people traveled with the company's vessels – an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the previous year. June saw particularly strong growth, with a 4.9 percent increase. The main driver of this growth was the Estonia–Finland route, which alone grew by 14.8 percent in June. The Finland–Sweden route also saw moderate growth, while the Estonia–Sweden line declined – mainly due to changes in scheduling and fleet deployment.
According to CEO Paavo Nõgene, the growing interest among passengers reflects a regained trust in ferry travel. Although summer is just beginning, the company is optimistic about the months ahead. In contrast, the freight sector presented a different picture: the volume of transported freight units declined by 22.8 percent. Nevertheless, Tallink feels well positioned to increase transport volumes again once the economy recovers. In addition to operational news, the company also reported changes to its fleet: the Star I was sold and the cruise ferry Romantika was chartered to Algeria.
