New hotel chain Stopover is aimed at eco-conscious car travelers
The Nordic hotel group Strawberry is planning to open the first of around 20 hotels in the new Stopover hotel chain in Falkenberg, Sweden, in 2025. The eco-friendly hotels cater to travelers with electric vehicles, providing comfortable beds, digital and efficient guest services, and amenities for children and pets.
Since 2019, domestic and intra-Nordic travel has grown notably. Along with accommodations at their destinations, travelers increasingly seek a comfortable place to stay during their journeys. To address this demand, Strawberry and property investor Slättö are introducing a new hotel chain designed for car travelers who prioritize comfort and accessibility.
Stopover will be a great option for business travelers, families, sports teams, and anyone needing temporary lodging during a transitional phase. The hotel, which will have 151 rooms, will feature amenities such as an electric vehicle charging station, fitness room, playroom, laundry facilities, meeting room with phone booths, and a dog park. Guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy delicious food and drinks. It will be constructed in Värmland using wooden modules, which will later be put together at the hotel location.
The environmental ambitions are high, and the buildings are designed to produce renewable energy through solar panels and geothermal heating. Additionally, they make extensive use of digital solutions to to maximize resource efficiency, saving both time and benefiting the climate.
The objective is to establish Stopover as a collection of at least 20 hotels within a ten-year timeframe, with the inaugural property scheduled to open in Falkenberg in late spring/summer 2025. During the initial phase of Stopover's development, a shortlist of municipalities in Sweden has been identified as potential locations for new construction, with a focus on sites outside city centres and in close proximity to or directly connected to major roadways.
