Expansion of Strawberry's Hotel Portfolio in Finland includes Helsinki's former City Prison

A significant chapter of Helsinki's heritage joins Strawberry Hotel Group's lineup in Finland. The iconic former city prison in Katajanokka, positioned near the sea and in close proximity to Helsinki's bustling marketplace and city center, is set to become the 15th addition to Strawberry Hotels and the inaugural Clarion Collection Hotel in the Finnish capital.

In 2002, Helsinki bid farewell to its renowned prison as it shuttered its doors for the final time, marking the release of its last inmate. Fast forward five years, following extensive renovations, the building underwent a remarkable transformation into a hotel, injecting renewed vitality into its historic walls. The extensive refurbishment, led by Primehotels, has earned awards for its design, service, and guest experience. Now, as of May 2nd, Strawberry Hotel Group takes over responsibility, entrusted with advancing the hotel's operations and guest satisfaction.

With a capacity of 106 rooms, the hotel still recalls its former function as a prison, dating back to 1837. Notably, the main hall, facade, and encompassing red brick walls are protected by the National Museum. Today, Hotel Katajanokka emerges as a contemporary lifestyle hub, featuring five conference rooms, a banquet hall, sauna, fitness center, and a restaurant, all nestled within a distinctive historical ambiance.

Hotel Katajanokka's integration into Strawberry's Clarion Collection Hotel chain signifies a notable expansion, adding Finland to its program alongside existing properties in Sweden and Norway. This debut marks a significant milestone for the Clarion Collection brand in Finland.

Expect to experience hallmark offerings of the Clarion Collection brand, including afternoon snacks and dinner, gradually introduced in the coming months.
