New trail highlights natural beauty and cultural heritage
National Geographic has revealed its highly anticipated annual list of the 25 most remarkable destinations for 2025, showcasing a mix of emerging hotspots and beloved locales. Among the distinguished entries is Sweden’s Stockholm Archipelago, celebrated for its newly inaugurated island-hopping trail.
A new way to experience the Archipelago
The Stockholm Archipelago, comprising roughly 30,000 islands and islets, has gained recognition for the introduction of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail. Spanning 168 miles, this trail allows visitors to explore 21 islands while immersing themselves in the region’s stunning landscapes and rich local culture. Accommodations are available in traditional inns, including Utö Värdshus, which has a storied past of hosting famous personalities like Swedish actress Greta Garbo.
Marie Östblom, the Manager of Stockholm Archipelago at Stockholm Business Region, expressed enthusiasm about the acknowledgment: "We are thrilled to be included in National Geographic Traveler's list of the world's top destinations for 2025. Our focus has been on attracting visitors who appreciate nature and wish to experience the Archipelago during our Magic Season. This recognition validates our strategy."
Discover the "Magic Season"
The "Magic Season" refers to the enchanting period between late summer and early fall when the weather remains pleasant and the area becomes serene. This tranquil environment offers an ideal setting for visitors to explore without the hustle and bustle of peak tourist seasons.
Following a thorough nomination and evaluation process, Stockholm Archipelago has been recognized by National Geographic’s team of travel experts and international editorial teams, serving millions of readers through their publications and websites worldwide.
