Scandic's growing presence in Germany expands with new hotel in Nuremberg

Scandic is taking over a hotel in Nuremberg, Germany, in the first quarter of 2024. Strategically located close to the city's historic centre and main railway station, the new hotel will offer 311 rooms and event space for up to 850 guests. In addition to essential amenities, guests can enjoy shared facilities such as a restaurant, bar, fitness centre and wellness area.

Pandox, the landlord of the property, has recently completed an extensive refurbishment and will reopen the hotel in 2023.

Nuremberg and its surrounding area, the second largest metropolitan region in Bavaria with a population of around 1.3 million, have experienced rapid growth. The rise of international technology and innovation companies has fuelled demand, particularly from the business and conference segment. In addition, the city's rich cultural heritage and proximity to major events is attracting a growing number of leisure travellers.

Jens Mathiesen, President and CEO of Scandic Hotels Group, emphasises: "This move is in line with our strategy to expand in the German market. The location and the recent refurbishment offer promising opportunities to meet both business and leisure needs. In addition, our long-standing partnership with Pandox, our largest landlord, adds to our anticipation."

Michel Schutzbach, Head of Scandic Hotels Europe, adds: "The expansion in Germany strengthens our position in the European market. This addition will enhance our offering for business travellers organising larger events. We look forward to opening the first Scandic hotel in Nuremberg, a city that is developing into a major financial centre and investing in the future."

Pandox, which has carried out renovations with a focus on sustainability, is delighted to welcome Scandic as a tenant and looks forward to adding value to the property. The new hotel will operate under the Scandic brand and aim for Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification, in line with green initiatives.

Liia Nõu, CEO of Pandox, explains: "Scandic as a tenant underlines our ability to transform underperforming properties. In cooperation with Scandic, we aim to increase both the hotel's product and the property value, which is an important milestone."

The upcoming opening of this new hotel marks an exciting chapter for Scandic's expansion in Germany.
