Holiday Inn City Centre Helsinki under the Scandic brand

Scandic Hotels has taken a significant step in the Finnish hotel industry by extending its co-operation with landlord Exilion. The prestigious Holiday Inn City Centre in the heart of Helsinki will undergo a remarkable transformation. From 2025, the hotel will proudly carry the Scandic logo, fundamentally transforming its identity.

Since Scandic Restel took over in 2017, the hotel has been managed under a lease agreement with Exilion and a franchise partnership with IHG. The rebrand marks a new chapter in the development of this 174-room property, which has an enviable location close to Helsinki Central Station. The extensive refurbishment, which will begin in September 2024, will include improvements to the façade, a redesign of the interiors and a strong focus on sustainability measures.

Laura Tarkka, Head of Scandic Hotels in Finland, is excited about the brand's continued expansion in Helsinki and emphasises the city's appeal to both local and international travellers. She emphasises the strategic importance of this move, which will enable Scandic to serve the thriving leisure segment, supported by its proximity to other Scandic hotels.

The redesigned hotel is aiming for certification according to LEED standards and the prestigious Nordic Swan Ecolabel to emphasise its commitment to environmental protection. Scandic currently operates 20 hotels in Helsinki with a total of 5116 rooms, consolidating its position as a major force in the city's hotel industry.
