The Levi-based tourism company continues to expand its hotel portfolio and strengthens its presence in southern Finland

Finnish tourism company Hullu Poro Oy has acquired Hotel Kumpeli Spa in Heinola. The move marks another step in the privately owned company’s growth beyond Lapland and underlines continued investment in Finland’s hospitality sector.

Local continuity

Previous owner Eira Lerkkanen is retiring after leading the hotel since 1993. All 15 employees will remain with the company under their current terms. Riikka Merikko has been appointed as the new hotel manager.

Originally opened in 1986, the hotel offers 120 rooms, restaurant and meeting facilities, as well as a spa area added in 2010.

Hullu Poro Oy already operates hotels, restaurants and tourism services across Finland, including properties in Levi and Kemi. The acquisition suggests continued confidence among established tourism players in domestic growth opportunities.
