Lapland’s air connections expand as Finavia prepares for a record-breaking 2025–2026 season

The winter flight season has officially begun across Finland’s airports, and Rovaniemi Airport is on track to surpass one million passengers for the first time in its history.

According to Finavia, the company operating Finland’s airports, there will be scheduled flights to 102 international airports on 163 routes during the 2025–2026 winter season. The strongest growth is expected at Lapland’s tourism-driven airports, where 11 new international routes have been added.

“Of all Finavia airports, Rovaniemi will see the largest growth in passenger volumes this winter,” says Petri Vuori, Senior Vice President for Route Development at Finavia. “Leisure travel across Europe continues to rise, reflected in the strong demand for direct international connections.”

Record growth for Lapland’s airports

Finavia’s airports will offer 13 new scheduled flight connections to destinations across Europe this winter. A total of 75 direct routes will serve Lapland’s five airports – Ivalo, Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Kuusamo and Kemi-Tornio – including domestic routes to Helsinki.

Rovaniemi leads with 46 direct routes, followed by Kittilä (15) and Ivalo (9). Direct international flights to Kittilä will start from Amsterdam (KLM), Copenhagen (SAS) and Berlin (Eurowings).

Finnair, Ryanair and EasyJet are increasing their capacity the most, with Finnair remaining the main carrier bringing passengers to Lapland.

Eight new routes to Rovaniemi

During the winter season, flights from 38 international airports will land in Rovaniemi. The airport will welcome eight new scheduled connections, including:

  • Ryanair: Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester (UK) und Shannon (Irland)
  • Norwegian: Barcelona
  • EasyJet: Belfast und London–Southend
  • LOT Polish Airlines: Warsaw

Finnair and Norwegian will continue to operate between Rovaniemi and Helsinki, with Finnair offering up to 10 daily flights during peak days.

Passenger experience upgrades

To meet growing demand, Finavia has expanded Rovaniemi Airport’s departures hall by nearly 1,000 m², improving check-in and passenger facilities.

Meanwhile, other regional airports are also growing: Turku Airport welcomes two new routes (to Bucharest and Vilnius with Wizz Air), and SAS continues its Copenhagen–Turku service through winter. In January 2026, Discover Airlines will resume its Oulu–Frankfurt route.

“We’ve prepared for this busy winter well in advance, hiring seasonal staff to support customer service and snow maintenance,” says Vuori.

With new routes, upgraded facilities, and steady demand for Arctic experiences, Lapland’s airports are set for another record-breaking winter season.
