Overnight stays in Lapland at record high in December

Lapland records tourist numbers in December 2022

According to Statistic Finland, around 12% more overnight stays were generated in December 2022 than the year before. Foreign tourists accounted for 0.73 million overnight stays, which is a quarter more than in 2021.

The Lapland region was the frontrunner. A total of 0.55 million overnight stays were recorded here. Around 80 per cent of these were foreign tourists. The previous record from December 2019 was surpassed by 8%.

Most foreign visitors came from the UK, France and Germany. Hotels in Rovaniemi were almost sold out. Across the country, the hotel room occupancy rate was 47 per cent.
