New accessible swimming area opens in Kajaani

Kesäniemi beach in Kajaani offers safe and inclusive water access

In summer 2025, a new accessible swimming area was completed at Kesäniemi Beach in Kajaani. Designed primarily for individuals with physical or visual impairments, the facility is open to everyone who wants to enjoy swimming in a safe and comfortable environment.

Features designed for accessibility

The site includes a gently sloping concrete ramp with sturdy railings on both sides, as well as three swimming depth levels to accommodate various needs. A two-part changing room suitable for wheelchair users is also available directly on the beach. Visitors can easily access the swimming area from the designated disabled parking spaces, while tactile raised maps with Braille make navigation straightforward for visually impaired guests.

Located just 2 km from Kajaani city centre, Kesäniemi Beach combines modern accessibility features with stunning river views, making it a welcoming spot for all who wish to enjoy the water.
