Finavia forecasts five to ten per cent more passengers for winter 2026/27
Air traffic to Finnish Lapland is expected to grow again this winter. In its forecast published on 14 October, Finavia anticipates five to ten per cent more passengers and four to eight per cent more flight movements. International visitors arrive on both direct flights and connections through Helsinki.
Airport preparations for the season
Finavia has completed recruitment for 120 seasonal positions at Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo and Kuusamo. Improvements include reorganised vehicle traffic areas outside Rovaniemi’s terminal, renewed check-in machines at Rovaniemi and Kittilä, and new self-service bag drops at Ivalo.
Coordinate the journey beyond the airport
For Benelux tour operators, the forecast is a useful prompt to review arrival arrangements with local partners. Do transfer times and vehicle capacities match the booked flights? Who communicates schedule changes? Does the first day’s itinerary allow enough time for baggage collection and the onward journey?
Airport preparations support the handling of traffic, but they do not establish whether rooms, guides or activities are available on a particular date. Those elements still need separate confirmation.
Why we are watching this
Further growth in air traffic makes reliable coordination between flights, transfers, accommodation and the first scheduled activity increasingly important.
