Hurtigruten passengers receive a free trip along the Norwegian coast in the absence of the Northern Lights
Hurtigruten has announced that it is extending its famous Northern Lights promise for the next winter season. This promise applies to all voyages between September 20, 2024 and the end of March 2025 along the classic route as well as for North Cape voyages from Hamburg or Bergen.
Last winter, the guarantee was valid from October. The Northern Lights Promise comes into effect if no aurora borealis can be seen within sight of the ship during a voyage of at least eleven days along the Norwegian coast. In this case, passengers receive a free six-day southbound or seven-day northbound mail ship voyage the following winter. The Northern Lights sighting must be registered by the ship's management, who will inform passengers if the natural phenomenon is visible. Passengers must activate the Northern Lights alarm in their cabins to be notified.
CEO Hedda Felin promotes: "Norway is the best place to see the Northern Lights. We firmly believe that our Hurtigruten voyages are the best way to explore the real Norway." According to Heiko Jensen, the German Vice President Sales & Marketing, Hurtigruten can look back on a successful winter and expects the same for the coming season. "The high demand for winter mail boat trips shows the immense interest of travelers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland in experiencing the Northern Lights on board the Original in Norway."
