A hotel will be built on the historic island of Hylkysaari in Helsinki

The new owners of Hylkysaari Island, which was acquired in 2021, are about to embark on an exciting redevelopment. Valo Finland, the current owners, have detailed plans to restore the island's historic structures and turn it into a hotel.

The striking pilot station from 1909, which housed the Maritime Museum until 2007, is to be remodelled. There are also plans to demolish the buildings erected in the 1980s and replace them with inviting cabins for guests. This will create around 1000 square metres of new space.

Instead of artificial land bridges, access to the four-hectare island will now be via a planned pedestrian bridge, with boat access being the main mode of transport. Valo Finland plans to present a detailed revision proposal to the municipal environment committee next spring.

More on the plans for the hotel at Hylkysaari.
