New concept combines Norwegian coastal voyage with multi-day stay in Lofoten

Havila Voyages has announced a new travel concept that integrates a multi-day stay in the Lofoten Islands directly into the Norwegian Coastal Route. The new product, called Lofoten Coastal Stopover, allows travelers to pause their voyage in Svolvær for several nights before continuing the journey along the coast.

The concept will be available for booking from week 12, with the first departures scheduled for May 2026.

A new way to experience the coastal route

Traditionally, cruises along the Norwegian coast include only short port calls, while longer land programs are offered either before or after the voyage. With the new Lofoten Coastal Stopover, Havila Voyages is introducing a different model.

Guests travelling southbound from Kirkenes can disembark in Svolvær, spend two to three nights at Thon Hotel Svolvær, and then continue their coastal voyage on the next Havila ship while keeping the same cabin category.

The aim is to give travellers more time to experience the destination while maintaining the continuity of the coastal journey.

Responding to changing travel trends

According to Havila Voyages, the concept reflects a growing demand for more time on land, deeper experiences and greater flexibility during travel. Rather than limiting visits to a few hours in port, the stopover model allows travelers to explore Lofoten in greater depth, from outdoor activities and local cuisine to cultural experiences. During their stay, guests can book excursions such as sea eagle safaris, kayaking tours, mountain hikes, museum visits or culinary experiences via a digital activity platform.

First step in a broader initiative

The Lofoten launch is the first product under the new Coastal Stopover concept, which Havila Voyages plans to expand to additional ports along the Norwegian coast.

The company sees the concept as a way to increase flexibility for travelers while also strengthening local value creation and year-round tourism in coastal destinations.

Lofoten as a highlight of the coastal route

For many travelers sailing along the Norwegian coast, Lofoten has long been one of the most anticipated stops. The region is internationally known for its dramatic mountains, traditional fishing villages, northern lights and midnight sun.

Until now, most coastal voyages offered only a short stop of a few hours in Stamsund or Svolvær. The new stopover concept allows visitors to spend several days exploring the landscapes, culture and cuisine of the archipelago.
