Viking Lines special voyages 2024 range from music to gardening

In the coming year, Viking Line will be offering more than a hundred themed cruises that promise a unique blend of current trends and nostalgic charm. The themes are diverse and range from champagne and stand-up comedy to various music genres and fashion.

Finnish travellers in transition

For Finns, the destination and route of their cruise is increasingly becoming the main incentive for travelling. A record number of speciality cruises have therefore been planned for the coming year. At present, there is a clear trend towards relaxing and down-to-earth themes such as craftsmanship and gardening.

When tickets for the Kaija Koo special cruise on board the Viking Grace went on sale next May, all 2,000 tickets were sold out within just two hours. There has been a similarly rapid response from travellers looking to secure a place on Viking Line's exclusive voyages to Visby next summer. Last year, all four departures were fully booked.

The attraction of the variety of themes

In addition to the attraction of famous artists and unique destinations, travellers are increasingly drawn to different themes that extend to the entire ship or its conference facilities. In the coming year, Viking Line is planning more than a hundred speciality cruises, a new record for the company. A total of over 60,000 passengers are expected on these sailings.

Speciality cruises are currently experiencing a real boom, although Viking Line has been organising such cruises since the 1990s. A decade ago, the predominant theme on the company's speciality cruises was wellness and self-help, with the focus mainly on physical well-being and related lectures. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has sparked interest in gentler and more tangible experiences.

The music scene and generational diversity

In the music scene, the dance and rock genres of the 90s are particularly popular at the moment. Finnish hip-hop and rap are gaining momentum, and in January the best Finnish rap artists will perform for the second time on Viking Grace's cruise "The Shipment". But music of completely different genres also has its appeal, such as the "Beatles Cruise" on the Gabriella, which brought together fans from three generations, including young adults whose grandparents were avid Beatles fans.
