Discover the charm of the Finnish holiday homes

Finland is a country of stunning natural beauty and captivating culture. Besides the endless forests, the clear lakes and the fascinating northern lights, there is another feature that expresses the Finnish way of life: Mökki, the Finnish holiday homes. In this blogpost, we want to explore the fascinating charm of Mökkis.

At our online sales workshop MÖKKI 2023 you can meet holiday home suppliers from Finland. On 13 September 2023, NordicMarketing is organising a virtual meeting between holiday home suppliers from Finland and tour operators from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium.

The meaning of Mökki
The Finnish "Mökki" stands for "hut" or "cottage" and refers to a type of holiday home that can be both traditional and luxurious. It is more than just a place to spend the night - it is a place to relax, retreat and experience nature. Most Mökkis are located in remote areas in the middle of Finnish nature, far from the hustle and bustle of city life. Mökkis are a place to escape the stresses of everyday life and enjoy the beauty of nature. The 'Mökki' is considered a Finnish cultural asset, a balance to working life and a way to spend as much time as possible outdoors.

The architecture of the Mökkis
The characteristic holiday homes in Finland are characterised by their simple but practical construction. Mostly made of wood, they blend harmoniously into their natural surroundings. The traditional Mökki architecture is characterised by spacious windows that offer an unobstructed view of the surrounding nature, as well as a terrace where you can fully enjoy the fresh air and the silence. Most Mökkis also include a sauna. The red-painted holiday homes are particularly typical, creating a special idyll in the midst of green nature.

Mökkis are deeply rooted in Finnish culture and play a significant role in the lives of many Finns. They are a central part of many families' leisure time and holiday planning. As a place of gathering, the Mökki serves as a meeting place where families and friends come together to spend time and experience the beauty of nature. In addition, Mökkis symbolise the Finns' deep connection with their unique nature.

At our online sales workshop, MÖKKI 2023, numerous holiday home providers from Finland are represented. These include Arctic Boutique Hotel Iso Syöte & Safaris in Lapland, Tackork Gård & Marina in the Finnish archipelago, Yli-Kaitala in the Lakeland and Hawkhill Nature in the Helsinki region.
