Finland's National Museum in Helsinki is being completely renovated

As part of a monumental project, the National Museum of Finland in Helsinki is undergoing its most extensive renovation in a century, marking a significant milestone in the museum's history.

The renovation will expand the museum's operational capacity and usher in a new era for this historic institution. Discussions and planning began in June and careful preparations have been made for the renovation. The recent signing of the construction contract signalled the imminent start of this transformative project.

NCC has been commissioned to carry out the renovation of the roof, the façades and the ventilation system.
In particular, the museum's inner courtyard will undergo a remarkable remodelling and be fitted with an impressive glass roof. This architectural jewel, which was built in the early 1900s and last renovated in 2000, will be completely overhauled over an area of 12,000 square metres.

Catarina Molén-Runnäs, Head of NCC Building Nordics, emphasises the importance of preserving the historical and architectural significance of the building. "The building is a testament to Finnish heritage and cultural richness. Our approach focuses on preserving its architectural splendour while meeting changing requirements. Our aim is to make the building energy efficient and preserve elements wherever possible," she emphasises.

The construction phase, which is due to start immediately, is expected to be completed by 2026.
