Overnight stays on the rise – particularly strong growth in Lapland and Uusimaa
According to recent figures from Statistics Finland, a total of 1.47 million overnight stays were recorded in Finnish accommodation establishments in April 2025. Of these, 1.15 million were by domestic travelers, while 310,000 were made by international visitors.
This represents a 3% increase compared to April 2024. Notably, the number of overnight stays by foreign tourists rose by 14%, while stays by Finnish residents remained at the same level as the previous year.
Key source markets: Sweden, Germany, and the USA
The top international source countries were Sweden, Germany, and the United States. This trend reflects continued growth in demand from Finland’s strongest European and transatlantic markets.
Uusimaa and Lapland lead in demand
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded in Uusimaa, totaling around 490,000. While domestic demand remained stable, overnight stays by international visitors increased by 14% year-on-year. Lapland followed with 210,000 overnight stays – with a notable 20% rise in international guests and a 4% increase in domestic stays. The region remains a strong draw for nature and winter tourism.
Hotel occupancy and pricing
The average hotel room occupancy rate in April was 46%, with an average nightly rate of EUR 110. The highest prices were found in Lapland, where the average room cost EUR 140 – a clear indicator of strong seasonal demand.
