Grants for the development of Hurtigruten's sustainable zero-emission vessels

The Norwegian Green Platform initiative supports Hurtigruten's Sea Zero project for the development of zero-emission passenger ships with around 6.7 million euros.

Reducing emissions through green growth and restructuring through research and innovation is the goal of the Green Platform initiative. Projects based on this goal receive financial support.

As early as spring 2022, Hurtigruten launched the "Sea Zero" project with the aim of developing the first zero-emission Hurtigruten ship by 2030 together with SINTEF and other Norwegian shipping companies. The research and development phase can now begin in early 2023 thanks to the support of the Green Platform initiative. Hurtigruten sees challenges above all in terms of investment. Only 0.1% of all ships worldwide have zero-emission technologies.

"Sea Zero" aims to enable zero-emission passenger and freight transport along the Norwegian coast by 2030.
