Regan Vest bunker complex in Denmark becomes part of the Cold War Museum

In Denmark, one of the greatest secrets is revealed. On 13 February, the Regan Vest bunker complex, which was built in the 1960s as a nuclear-safe shelter for the royal family and government, will be opened to the public. It is part of the new Cold War museum.

The approximately 5,500 square metre facility has room for 350 people and is located 60 metres underground in Rold Skov in Northern Jutland. The bunker was intended to provide protection for the Danish government and the royal family in the event of a third world war. It was in operation until 2012. From mid-February, it will open its doors to visitors from all over the world.

Visitors will be able to see the original interior of the bunker - from the Arne Jacobsen chairs and lamps to the Nordisk Fjer bedding, communications equipment and original NATO stamps. Guests will be guided with an expert through the government situation room, the Queen's room, the recreation room and the canteen. The public can also visit the yellow brick villa in front of the entrances to the bunker, where the machinist lived together with his family.

The admission ticket also includes a visit to the modern exhibition on Denmark and the Cold War in the newly built museum building.

The guided tour lasts about 1.5 hours and must be booked online in advance. The visit to the museum and bunker, including the guided tour, costs about 36 euros.
