Havila Voyages presents the secrets of the universe along the Norwegian coast

Havila Voyages is launching three new astronomy voyages for 2024, focusing on enlightening lectures by distinguished lecturers from the Royal Astronomical Society. The cruises aim to deepen understanding of the cosmos and include an 11-night voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes and back to Bergen in February, March and October 2024.

John Zarnecki, a respected British space explorer and former President of the Royal Astronomical Society, will accompany the voyage on 2 March 2024, giving talks on fascinating topics such as spacecraft, cosmic beings and the fundamental question "Are we alone?".

In parallel, Ian Ridpath, editor of the Oxford Dictionary of Astronomy, will lead the cruises on 1 February and 30 October. During the voyages, Ian will give exclusive talks on a variety of topics including the Northern Lights, comets, stars and the Apollo space missions.

Away from the fascinating lectures, guests can take part in a series of guided excursions along the Norwegian coast. These excursions offer the very best, from dog sledding to visits to the North Cape or exploring the snow hotel in Kirkenes. And of course, when travelling along the Norwegian coast, the search for the Aurora Borealis on winter evenings is a must. John and Ian are on hand with tips on how to observe this phenomenon and offer explanations.

Havila is so convinced of the visibility of the aurora borealis that they offer a northern lights guarantee for all winter cruises (including the astronomy departures). If the spectacular green light show does not appear on an 11-night voyage between August and March, guests receive a free 6- or 7-night cruise the following winter.
