Reykjavík is considering the introduction of a water taxi network

The establishment of a network of sea buses in the capital region of Iceland could significantly reduce journey times and create new leisure opportunities for locals and visitors.

Pálmar Harðarson, owner of Þingvangur, emphasises this possibility and has commissioned an architect to sketch out such a network. He is calling on the planning authorities in Reykjavík to look into these concepts.

Key locations

Starting from Hafnarfjörður harbour, the southern terminus, the proposed route would run to the north side of Álftanes. From there, it would pass through the Sjáland area in Garðabær, where Harðarson envisages two stops - one in the west of Sjáland and another at the future fitness and catering facility at Sjálands restaurant and meeting place planned by the owners of World Class.

Further along the route, the water taxi would travel to Kársnes in Kópavogur, with planned stops at both Kársnes Marina and the sailing club facilities in the north. Subsequent stops would include Nauthólsvík, Skerjafjörður, Seltjarnarnes, Reykjavik harbour and finally the terminal in Gufunes.
