Tallink Silja Line receives Sustainable Travel Finland label again

The ferry company has received the Sustainable Travel Finland label for the third consecutive time

This is highlighting the growing role of certified sustainability work within Finland’s tourism industry.

Tallink Silja Line has once again received the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label by Visit Finland.

The company has now received the certification three times in succession. In 2020, Tallink Silja Line became the first shipping company to receive the STF label. The current certification is valid until 28 August 2028.

Sustainability as an ongoing process

The Sustainable Travel Finland programme does not focus on a single sustainability initiative. Instead, it provides a framework for continuous and systematic development.

At Tallink Silja Line, this includes measures related to energy efficiency, responsible sourcing, reducing food waste and improving the safety and wellbeing of both guests and employees.

Reducing emissions is another important area. Most vessels in the company’s fleet use shore power while docked, helping to reduce emissions in ports. The Tallink Group has also continued developing solutions related to hydrodynamics, energy efficiency, carbon capture, battery and hybrid technologies and alternative fuels.

Certification is becoming increasingly relevant for international markets

For tourism businesses, the STF programme provides both a development framework and a way to communicate sustainability efforts more clearly to international travellers and business partners.

According to Visit Finland, around 530 Finnish tourism companies and organisations currently hold the Sustainable Travel Finland label.

This makes certified sustainability an increasingly visible part of Finland’s tourism offering and can also provide tour operators with useful information when evaluating potential partners and products.
