European airlines expand routes to Ivalo
Winter tourism in Finland’s Arctic region is receiving a significant boost as leading European airlines introduce new direct flights to Ivalo, Lapland’s northernmost airport. This expansion in flight connections comes just in time for the winter season, making it easier for tourists to access the region’s unique winter adventures.
New direct connections from across europe
Several airlines are offering direct flights to Ivalo in the upcoming winter season, targeting travelers from various parts of Europe. Austrian Airlines will launch a weekly flight from Vienna starting in January 2024. For travelers from Paris, there are two options: Vueling will begin direct flights from Paris Orly on December 28, with services every Saturday until the end of March. Additionally, Transavia will start flights from Paris in mid-December.
Edelweiss Air from Switzerland is also planning direct flights from Zurich to Ivalo, although the exact start date has not yet been confirmed. German travelers can look forward to two new connections: Lufthansa will fly from Frankfurt, and Eurowings will offer weekly flights from Düsseldorf starting on December 21.
ince April 2024, Finnair has offered twice-weekly flights from Kirkenes, Norway, via Ivalo to Helsinki. This additional connection further improves access to the region for both domestic and international tourists.
British Airways launches its northernmost route
British Airways is marking a new milestone by offering its northernmost scheduled flight. Starting on December 3, the British airline will fly twice a week from London Gatwick to Ivalo, further opening Finland’s Arctic region to British tourists.
