A once-in-a-lifetime event meets polar exploration with Quark Expeditions

In August 2026, travellers can experience a total solar eclipse from one of the most extraordinary vantage points on Earth: aboard a polar expedition ship. Quark Expeditions has unveiled two special voyages from Iceland to Greenland, blending this rare celestial spectacle with Arctic adventure.

Two voyages, one epic event

  • 17 Days: Iceland to Greenland (Aug 3–19, 2026) aboard the Ocean Explorer, a state-of-the-art vessel for 138 guests.
  • 13 Days: Iceland to Greenland (Aug 6–18, 2026) on the Ultramarine, featuring helicopter excursions.

Highlights include Iceland’s remote Westfjords, Greenland’s Kong Oscar Fjord, and the vast wilderness of Scoresby Sund – the world’s largest fjord system.

Learn from renowned experts

  • Michael Zeiler (17-day voyage): Celebrated eclipse photographer and astronomy expert.
  • David Baron (13-day voyage): Science journalist and eclipse chaser with nine total eclipses witnessed worldwide.

Guests can enjoy onboard lectures, Zodiac cruises, guided landings, and breathtaking Arctic scenery.

The solar eclipse

On 12 August 2026, totality will last 2 minutes 17 seconds. The ships will be strategically positioned for an unparalleled viewing experience amidst the Arctic’s untouched beauty.

Luxury meets expedition

Both ships offer elegant cabins, panoramic lounges, and wellness facilities. The Ocean Explorer features Scandinavian-inspired design and expansive decks, while the Ultramarine adds helicopter flightseeing and advanced exploration tools.
