Highoccupancy rates and strong winter bookings signal continued interest in travel to the far north

Demand for travel to the North is showing promising signs at the start of the winter season. The Norwegian Group reported a total of 2.8 million passengers for September 2026. Norwegian itself achieved a load factor of 87.1%, even though capacity was increased by 6% compared to the same month last year.

The outlook for the coming winter months is also positive. According to Norwegian, bookings are trending well. Rovaniemi and Tromsø, in particular, as well as the Nordic capitals, are cited as popular destinations for inbound travelers.

Why we are watching this

For tour operators offering winter trips to Northern Norway and Finland, this development is an interesting market signal. However, the figures cited refer to the Norwegian Group as a whole, rather than specifically to demand from the DACH or Benelux markets.

When planning winter travel products, it is therefore worth reviewing flight capacity, availability and potential seat allotments.
