Construction to start in autumn 2025 – over 200 rooms in central location in Narvik

A major hotel project is taking shape in Narvik: A brand-new city hotel with more than 200 rooms, a restaurant, bar, and conference facilities is set to be built at Dronningens gate 27. The development is a collaborative project between the property owner Dronningens gate 27 Narvik AS, construction company Peab, and the architecture firm Krook & Tjäder.

Central location with views of fjords and mountains

The hotel will be located right in the heart of Narvik, offering easy access to the city’s amenities, the sea, nearby mountain ranges, and northern Swedish Lapland. It will blend harmoniously with the existing streetscape along Kongens gate while adding a striking architectural element through a taller, recessed structure at the rear.

Boosting tourism and local economy

Narvik continues to attract growing attention as a travel destination – a trend expected to intensify with the Alpine World Championships in 2029. The new hotel will not only increase accommodation capacity but also create jobs and generate revenue for local businesses.

The planning phase is currently underway under a cooperative project model. The preliminary design is expected to be completed by the end of September 2025. Demolition work for the existing structures is already being tendered, and the start of construction is scheduled for autumn 2025.

The new hotel will have a footprint of around 1,000 square metres and rise four stories along Kongens gate. A taller rear section will incorporate modern design features while preserving the historical post-war architectural character of the area. Sustainability, energy efficiency, and cost optimisation are also key priorities in the project.

Voices from the project

“After WWII, this plot was already designated for hotel use – continuing this vision with a forward-looking concept makes us proud,” says John Christian Eriksson, project representative at Dronningens gate 27 Narvik AS. Trygve Nilsen, District Manager at Peab, adds: “Being involved early allowed us to contribute our expertise from the start – ensuring cost efficiency and environmental quality. The collaboration with the owner and architects is working very well.”
