New bus service connects Kiruna and Narvik

Cross-border connection creates new opportunities for Arctic itineraries

A new bus service between Kiruna in Swedish Lapland and Narvik in Northern Norway is making travel between two of the Arctic's best-known destinations easier than ever. Operating twice daily in both directions, the new route improves accessibility and makes it simpler for international visitors to combine Sweden and Norway within one journey.

Better connections across the border

The new bus complements the existing rail service and offers additional flexibility, particularly during the summer months when train services between Kiruna and Narvik are more limited. It also provides a direct link between Kiruna Airport and Narvik Railway Station.

The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours and passes several well-known destinations, including Abisko, Björkliden and Riksgränsen, before reaching Narvik and its spectacular fjord landscape.

Easier to combine two Nordic destinations

For tour operators, the new connection creates additional opportunities when designing cross-border itineraries. Travelers can now combine Swedish Lapland and Northern Norway more easily without relying on a rental car.

Improved public transport also supports more sustainable travel while making it easier to package different landscapes, experiences and destinations into a single itinerary.

What does this mean for tour operators?

International travelers increasingly look for journeys that connect several destinations rather than focusing on just one location. Better transport links make these itineraries easier to create while offering greater flexibility for both FIT programs and group tours.

The new Kiruna-Narvik bus service is therefore more than just another transport option. It strengthens accessibility across Northern Scandinavia and supports closer cooperation between destinations on both sides of the border.
