Diverse cultural program in Helsinki in 2025

Next year, Helsinki will present an impressive cultural program celebrating Finnish design, art, architecture, and storytelling. From the reopening of the iconic Finlandia Hall to the 80th anniversary of the beloved Moomins, the city will come alive with exhibitions, celebrations, and international events.

Reopening of Finlandia Hall

The Finlandia Hall, designed by Alvar Aalto and completed in 1971, will reopen on January 4, 2025, following extensive renovations. In addition to serving as a conference and event venue, it now features unique services such as exclusive accommodations, a bistro restaurant, and a wine café. Starting June 2025, a permanent exhibition will explore Finnish identity and the creative inspirations of Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto. Visitors can also enjoy contemporary Finnish art from the collections of the HAM Helsinki Art Museum.

80 Years of Moomins: Tove Jansson’s art in Helsinki

To mark the 80th anniversary of the Moomins, created by Tove Jansson in 1945, Helsinki will host two significant exhibitions. The celebrations begin with "Tove Jansson – Paradise" (October 25, 2024 – April 6, 2025) at the HAM Helsinki Art Museum, focusing on her public murals. In October 2025, the Architecture and Design Museum Helsinki will feature an exhibition offering unique insights into Jansson’s world and her perspective on architecture and design.

Helsinki Biennial 2025: art meets nature

The Helsinki Biennial 2025, running from June 8 to September 21, 2025, will revolve around the theme of "Protection," creating a dialogue between art and nature. The venues include Vallisaari Island, the Esplanade Park, and the HAM Helsinki Art Museum. Approximately 35 artists will participate, with about half of the works being site-specific commissions premiering in Helsinki. The Biennial emphasizes sustainability and plans to make selected artworks permanent features in the city.

Helsinki design week 2025: 20th anniversary

Helsinki Design Week will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025 under the theme "Celebration." The main exhibition and symposium, "How to Design Happiness," will explore the concept of happiness through the lens of design. Alongside popular events like the Design Market and Open Studios, innovative symposia and satellite events will showcase various aspects of design.

Helsinki invites locals and visitors alike to experience the city’s vibrant cultural scene, where creativity and inspiration abound.
