Round trip from Ålesund on Havila Polaris canceled following an incident of overheating on board
On 24 July 2024, there was an incident on board the cruise ship ‘MS Havila Polaris’ on its way into the Geirangerfjord. According to the shipping company Havila Voyages, all passengers and some of the crew were brought safely ashore in Stranda. The cause was an overheating of the propulsion system on the port side. No fire had broken out on board, but considerable overheating had triggered the cooling and fire protection systems in the affected areas.
‘Safety is our top priority and we will not compromise on this. Therefore, the Havila Polaris cannot sail until the repairs have been completed and the systems have been thoroughly tested,’ says CEO Bent Martini.
Havila Polaris is scheduled to return to service from Bergen on 3 August.
