Viking Line reports record passenger numbers on the Estonian route in summer 2024
Between June and August 2024, Viking Line transported nearly 1.8 million passengers. The Tallinn route, in particular, saw a significant increase in demand, with more departures than in previous years. Passengers were drawn by the attractions in Estonia, the Baltic countries, and the Åland Islands, inspired by the film Stormskärs Maja, as well as the newly renovated Viking Cinderella.
Peak season for cruises
Summer is the most important season for Viking Line. According to Johanna Boijer-Svahnström, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, the company meticulously prepared by increasing capacity on the Tallinn route. The Helsinki–Stockholm route also saw expanded offerings with the permanent assignment of the Cinderella. Despite fully booked ships, Viking Line maintained a high level of customer satisfaction.
Estonia route sees strong growth
Passenger numbers on the Tallinn route grew by more than 11%, reaching a total of 732,000 travelers. In addition to the Viking XPRS, both the Viking Cinderella and Gabriella served the route. Estonia has become a popular destination for families, with many using Tallinn as a starting point for further travel to the Baltic countries and other parts of Europe. Estonia is no longer just attractive for its low prices. The capital, Tallinn, and the rest of the country offer a variety of museums, natural attractions, and culinary experiences, increasingly drawing tourists beyond the city limits.
Visby cruises and rising interest in Åland
In addition to regular services to Stockholm and Tallinn, Viking Line offered seven special cruises to Visby, which sold out in the spring. On the Turku–Mariehamn–Stockholm route, 747,000 passengers were transported. Åland benefited from the popularity of the film Stormskärs Maja and growing interest in golf tourism, especially since Åland's Slottsbanan golf course was named Finland’s best golf course.
