Tallink Silja Line sold “Star I” – “Superfast IX” returns to service
The Estonian shipping company Tallink Silja Line has announced a significant change in its fleet: the high-speed ferry “Star I” has been sold to a new owner and will leave the fleet after around 17 years in service. At the same time, the company has confirmed the return of the ferry “Superfast IX”, which previously operated in the Tallink fleet and will now temporarily serve the busy Tallinn–Helsinki route.
“Star I” sold after long service
Commissioned in 2007, the “Star I” was a key vessel on the Tallink connection between Estonia and Finland. The ship will leave regular service on 27 March 2025 and will be handed over to its new owner in the following weeks.
During the busy Easter travel period, the “MyStar” – the fleet’s newest ferry – will operate the route alone. Other Tallink ships will continue on their scheduled routes, ensuring uninterrupted service for travelers over the holidays.
“Superfast IX” returns to the Baltic
Starting 10 April 2025, the former Tallink vessel “Superfast IX”, most recently sailing as “Stena Superfast IX” for another operator, will rejoin the fleet. After necessary preparations, it will temporarily take over the second daily connection between Tallinn and Helsinki.
This interim solution will remain in place until a permanent replacement for the “Star I” is introduced. Tallink emphasizes that bringing back the “Superfast IX” is a fast and effective response to recent fleet changes.
The route between Tallinn and Helsinki is one of the busiest maritime links in the Baltic Sea region. With this flexible fleet adjustment, Tallink Silja Line ensures that timetables remain reliable and passenger demand – especially during peak travel periods – continues to be met.
With the sale of “Star I” and the return of “Superfast IX”, Tallink Silja Line demonstrates strategic foresight and flexibility in its fleet management. For passengers, this means continued reliable service and sufficient capacity on one of the most important routes between Finland and Estonia.
