New generation of ferries to operate between Finland and Germany from 2028
Finnlines has started the construction of the first new Hansa Superstar class vessel. The new ro-pax ships are being built at CMI Weihai Shipyard in China and are scheduled to enter service on the route between Finland and Germany from summer 2028.
The new vessels are specifically designed for the long Baltic Sea route and focus on modern environmental technologies as well as increased passenger comfort. Planned features include methanol-powered engines, battery systems, shore power connection and energy-efficient solutions to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
More capacity and a new travel experience
The Hansa Superstar vessels will accommodate up to 1,000 passengers and offer 5,100 lane metres of cargo capacity. Onboard facilities will include new cabin categories – ranging from family cabins to suites – as well as various restaurants, bars, spa and sauna areas, and services for families.
One of the highlights will be the panoramic bar on deck 12 with views across the Baltic Sea.
With the new vessel class, Finnlines continues to invest in modern connections between Finland and continental Europe. In total, the investment programme includes three new vessels with a total value of approximately EUR 500 million.
