Finnair connects the Arctic: New direct flights to Northern Norway
Finnair is strengthening its presence in Northern Norway by introducing new direct connections from Helsinki, aiming to increase year-round accessibility for international travelers. This includes a new route to Alta, set to launch in 2026, complementing the existing flights to Tromsø, Bodø, and Kirkenes. The strategic expansion leverages Helsinki as a hub, facilitating connections to key markets in Asia, Europe, and North America. This initiative aligns with the Visit Arctic Europe cooperation, which promotes cross-border tourism between Finnish Lapland and Northern Norway.
The new routes are expected to significantly improve Northern Norway’s accessibility for international travelers. Rigmor Myhre, Head of B2C Communications at the Northern Norway Tourist Board, emphasized that these direct connections will enable better marketing of the Arctic region year-round in a sustainable and appealing way. Finnair’s commitment to the region reflects the shared goal of strengthening Arctic connectivity and promoting Northern Norway in international markets.
