Finland strengthens its global access, creating new opportunities, but also new pressure for tourism suppliers
Finland’s airports are entering the 2026 summer and autumn season with an expanded network of over 140 direct connections. While this improves accessibility, it also shifts the dynamics for tourism businesses across the Nordics.
Helsinki strengthens its role as a global hub
New long-haul routes are reinforcing Helsinki Airport’s position as a key link between Europe, Asia and the Middle East. China Southern Airlines has launched flights from Beijing, and Emirates will introduce daily connections from Dubai starting in autumn.
Long-haul markets become easier to reach, and multi-destination itineraries gain importance.
Regional routes unlock new combinations
Beyond Helsinki, new connections between Nordic and Baltic regions open up fresh possibilities for product design.
Examples include:
- Oulu – Riga (multiple weekly flights)
- Kittilä – Alta
- Vaasa – Umeå
Cross-border itineraries become easier to build, enabling more diverse and flexible travel programs.
