Expansion further strengthens Lapland’s position in the German market

Eurowings is planning to launch a new direct route between Berlin and Kuusamo in northern Finland for the winter 2026/27 season. The service is expected to start on 20 December with weekly flights, just in time for the peak Christmas travel period.

The new route builds on Eurowings’ existing operations to Kuusamo, including flights from Düsseldorf. With this addition, the airline continues to strengthen its presence in Finnish Lapland. Kuusamo, home to the well-known Ruka ski area, has proven particularly popular in the German market, especially among families and winter activity travelers.

The planned Berlin connection opens up a major new catchment area. Direct flights reduce travel time and complexity, making the destination more accessible and attractive. The move reflects a broader trend, with airlines expanding their winter offerings to northern Europe. Demand for Northern Lights, snow-based activities and authentic winter experiences remains strong.

The new route improves planning and packaging options for Kuusamo. In particular, it supports the development of ready-made packages and short-break offers. At the same time, it highlights a clear trend: accessibility to Lapland continues to expand, strengthening the region’s position in the international winter market.
