Improved accessibility to the Saimaa region from Frankfurt and Rotterdam
Starting in summer 2025, Savonlinna, one of Finland’s most scenic lakeside cities, will become even more accessible. New direct flights from Rotterdam and Frankfurt will enhance connectivity to the region, making travel easier for international visitors.
From June 2025, Dutch airline Chalair Aviation will launch regular direct flights between Rotterdam and Savonlinna. Additionally, Lufthansa will introduce a direct route from Frankfurt, one of Europe’s major international hubs. These new routes significantly reduce travel time and make the Saimaa region more appealing to travelers from Central Europe.
The new flight connections will not only provide a more convenient journey but also support the growth of tourism in Eastern Finland. Nature enthusiasts and culture lovers will particularly benefit from easier access to national parks, picturesque lake landscapes, and the renowned Savonlinna Opera Festival.
With these direct flights, the region aims to promote tourism while maintaining sustainability. Savonlinna continues to focus on responsible tourism, highlighting its pristine nature and cultural heritage while offering visitors authentic experiences.
Savonlinna goes international
With direct links to Rotterdam and Frankfurt, Savonlinna is now more accessible than ever to European travelers. This expansion strengthens the city’s position as a top destination in Finland, further establishing it as an attractive location for cultural and nature-based travel.
