A new waterfront attraction brings together swimming, wellness and architecture on Papirøen
Copenhagen’s waterfront is gaining a new attraction. KAI, a water and culture centre on the island of Papirøen, opens on 5 December 2026. The building was designed by Japanese architecture practice Kengo Kuma & Associates.
Swimming and wellness overlooking the harbour
Ten indoor and outdoor pools cater for swimming, family visits and relaxation. A heated outdoor pool overlooking the harbour is among the highlights.
Five distinctive brick towers shape the building, making its architecture part of the visitor experience. Alongside the swimming and wellness facilities, KAI will host cultural activities exploring water as a theme.
Another option for Copenhagen itineraries
For Benelux tour operators featuring Copenhagen, KAI offers an additional suggestion for guests’ independent leisure time. Its combination of architecture and wellness provides another way to experience the city’s waterfront.
Following the opening day, regular operations begin on 6 December, with daily opening hours from 06:00 to 21:00. Admission details, access conditions and the cultural programme should be checked on the centre’s website before travel.
Why we are watching this
KAI adds an architecture and wellness experience to Copenhagen’s city-break offering, with potential for itineraries beyond the summer season.
