Copenhagen triumphs again as Europe’s premier cruise destination of 2024

On March 6th, 2024, in a ceremony held in Berlin, Copenhagen was honored with the title of "Europe's Leading Cruise Port 2024" by the World Travel Awards. Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in various sectors of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. Copenhagen has previously clinched this prestigious award in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012, solidifying its position as the top destination for cruises.

Luis de Carvalho, the Commercial Cruise Director of Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP), accepted the award in Berlin, expressing gratitude to all who voted, including passengers, cruise lines, tourism professionals, and industry partners. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of CruiseCopenhagen, CMP colleagues, and local stakeholders in creating extraordinary experiences for cruise guests.

Known for its blend of history and modernity, Copenhagen offers a vibrant cultural scene and a renowned gastronomy, all while prioritizing sustainability. Klaus Bondam, Director of Cruise at CruiseCopenhagen, emphasized the significance of this recognition in promoting Denmark as a cruise destination, especially in attracting American cruise lines to the Baltic Sea region.

Strategically positioned as a gateway to the Baltic Sea and the Nordics/North Atlantic, Copenhagen boasts excellent infrastructure and facilities to support cruise operations. With over 750,000 guests and nearly 300 cruise ships welcomed in 2023, similar numbers are expected for 2024. Copenhagen anticipates over 50 cruise calls between October 2024 and April 2025, a remarkable occurrence for Northern Europe.

In 2024, Copenhagen will host 10 inaugural cruise ship calls, including vessels like Queen Anne, Mein Schiff 7, Ocean Albatross, and Azamara Onward. CMP's terminals accommodate a diverse range of cruise vessels, from luxury liners to expedition ships, reaffirming Copenhagen's versatility as the leading cruise destination.
