Iceland's travel industry is expecting a record summer. If the forecasts come true, the summer of 2024 will be the third largest in the history of Keflavík International Airport and the busiest tourist summer ever. A total of 8.5 million guests are expected at Keflavík Airport, including domestic travellers. Isavia, the airport operator, expects 2.4 million foreign visitors.
A total of 28 airlines fly to Keflavík this summer, with an average of 178 departures per day. More than half of the flights are operated by Icelandair.
"We look forward to welcoming even more guests this summer. The passenger forecast for the summer months, April to October, is an increase of 391,000 passengers per month, which is 7.2 per cent more than last year," says Greta Már Garðarsson, Chairman of Airlines and Destination Development at Isavia.
