In summer 2025, Copenhagen continues its commitment to sustainable tourism. The “CopenPay” campaign will not only be extended but also significantly expanded. Visitors who act sustainably during their stay will benefit from free entry to attractions, complimentary bike rentals, and other perks. A key focus is on travelers arriving by train, who will be rewarded with yoga sessions, guided tours, and discounted tickets to major city attractions. Additionally, the campaign encourages guests to stay longer in the city, rather than taking multiple short trips, thus promoting a more climate-friendly way to travel.
Initially launched as a pilot project in 2024, CopenPay rewarded eco-friendly actions like cycling, using public transport, or collecting litter in parks and coastal areas. Thanks to its success, the campaign will see a significant expansion in 2025.
Running from June 17 to August 17, 2025, the campaign will now span nine weeks and feature around 90 activities – three times more than the previous year. Wonderful Copenhagen, the city’s official tourism organization, views this initiative as a key step in aligning tourism with climate action.
“Our goal is not to bring even more visitors to Copenhagen, but to raise awareness for sustainable travel,” emphasizes Søren Tegen Pedersen, Director of Wonderful Copenhagen.
The campaign aims to inspire tourists to make conscious choices and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions through small, meaningful actions. By offering incentives like free bike rentals for train travelers, Copenhagen rewards climate-friendly behavior directly – an approach that could serve as a model for other destinations.
