Winter safari in Swedish Lapland

An exclusive, experienced-filled guided winter tour through Swedish Lapland, featuring arctic char fishing, a northern lights safari and a visit to the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi.

Program of the tour

Day 1: Arrival at the Abisko Mountain Lodge

Arrival either at Luleå or Kiruna Airport. From the you will be picked up by minivans and taken to your accommodation at Abisko Mountain Lodge, where you will stay in two bed rooms or in four bed cottages with a view over the famous Laponian mountains. In the evening you will have Dinner.

Day 2: Fishing trip and dinner at the Aurora Sky Station

Full day of arctic char fishing on Lake Cuonjájávri inside the Laponian Gate, 10-15 km from Abisko. Fishing licence and fishing guide included. When temperatures fall below -20 degrees Celsius, the fishing trip is cancelled and other activities takes over. Transport to Lake Cuonjájávri will be by snowmobile.  We will have lunch in a Sami hut (goahti) or in a snow shelter down by the lake. In the evening, we will be taking the chair-lift up to the Aurora Sky Station, located at the summit of the mountain Nuolja, 900 metres above sea level, to watch the northern lights. The Aurora Sky Station is a research observatory for the northern lights and Lonely Planet has named it the best place in the world to experience the northern lights. A four course dinner at the Aurora Sky Station is included. 

Day 3: Fishing on Lake Torneträsk

A full day of fishing out on Lake Torneträsk, lunch is included. Fishing licence and fishing guide included. Transport by snowmobile. When temperatures fall below -20 degrees Celsius, the fishing trip will be cancelled due to the risk of freezing injuries and other activities take over. You will have dinner with Sami entertainment at the Abisko Mountain Lodge.

Day 4: ICEHOTEL visit in Jukkasjärvi

Check-out and departure from Abisko and visit to the Jukkasjärvi ICEHOTEL. Lunch in Jukkasjärvi. Other activities in Jukkasjärvi: dog sledging, visits to Sami artisans, a local history museum and the Jukkasjärvi Church. Trip back to Kiruna. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Ferrum in Kiruna.

Day 5: Departure

Return home. Transfer from Hotel Ferrum to Kiruna Airport or Luleå Airport are included.

  • Participants: min. 4 people
  • Services: Nights with full board, activities as listed, transfer from airport/ train station, transport to activities by snowmobile.
  • Equipment: Participants must bring their own warm winter clothes, shoes, hat and gloves.
  • Please note: Participants must bring their own fishing equipment. Reindeer pelts and motorized ice drills are available. Fishing licence included. When temperatures fall below -20 degrees Celsius, the fishing trip will be cancelled due to the risk of freezing injuries and other activities will be held instead.
