Snow track week at Swedish Lapland

The snow tracks lead you to the magical winter region of the Arctic Circle between Sweden and Finland. 


Day 1: Arrival and snow shoe track

Arrival via Finland (Rovaniemi/ Kittilä) or Sweden (Luleå); transfer from one of the airports (RVN, KTT, LLA) to Norrsken Lodge in Övertorneå, Swedish Lapland. 
After check-in you will receive information about your upcoming stay at the lodge and adequate winter equipment consisting of a jumpsuit, warm shoes, gloves and a hat. 
Already on the day of arrival you will be taken out into winter nature. As soon as your snowshoes are fastened, you will cross the frozen river to the island of Haapakylä to discover the first traces of snow. Enjoy the silence and the vastness of the surroundings as well as the beautiful sky above you. Maybe you are lucky and see northern lights. Back at the lodge you can enjoy warm drinks over an open fire. 
Dinner consists of a 3-course menu and is served in the lodge's own restaurant.

Day 2: Arctic Circle & Reindeer Farm

After breakfast the excursion starts northwards. You will stop at the Kattilankoski rapids to learn more about the Torne river. Afterwards we continue to the Arctic Circle - there you will not only learn interesting things about this special place but also have the chance to jump over the Arctic Circle!
Then we continue to a reindeer farm. There you get to know the reindeer and the Sami reindeer herder, can feed and pet the animals. As soon as the sled is prepared and the reindeer is stretched out in front of the sled, you will make a small lap on a prepared track. Afterwards you will practice how to catch a reindeer with a lasso. In a Kota hut you take a break by the warming fire, drink hot coffee or cranberry juice. 
On the way back you stop at Roger - he is a famous reindeer butcher and will teach you more about his craft. You can also try dried reindeer meat and other reindeer delicacies. 
The tour, accompanied by a guide from Norrsken Lodge, takes about 3 hours. Back at the lodge, a warm soup awaits you for lunch in the Sami-Swiss lounge. 
The afternoon is at your free disposal. In the evening there is a 3-course menu in the restaurant. Afterwards you go on northern light search in the darkness.

Northern lights trace

As soon as the first northern lights appear in the sky you head for the nearby island of Haapakylä. From there you have best possibilities to take wonderful pictures of the northern lights.

Day 3: Snowmobile tour

After breakfast you will receive a briefing on snowmobiling. The exciting tour takes you across frozen lakes and through snow-covered forests up to the hills at the Arctic Circle. After crossing the Arctic Circle, take a break at the Kuusivare Hut or at the top of Luppioberget to make coffee and have a snack.
The excursion lasts between 3-4 hours, you drive in pairs on a snowmobile. Back at the lodge, a warm lunch awaits you in the Sami-Swiss lounge. You can spend the afternoon as you wish. In the evening a 3-course menu awaits you in the restaurant of Norrsken Lodge.

Day 4: Husky safari

Breakfast from the buffet. Today will be a very special day, because you will meet a real Husky Racing Team! Learn about the huskies and how to handle them properly. Afterwards your safari starts. Sitting in a sled you drive with a team of 10-14 dogs over frozen lakes into the arctic wilderness. Enjoy the cold clear air and the impressive silence, which is only broken by the dogs running through the snow. Back at Husky Camp it's time to pet and photograph. There will also be a snack and freshly brewed hot coffee over an open fire.
The safari lasts about 3-4 hours. Back at the lodge we have a warm lunch in the Sami-Swiss lounge. You can arrange the afternoon as you wish. The dinner in the restaurant consists of a 3-course menu.

Day 5: Departure

After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye. With a small gift from the hosts you will be taken to the airport (RVN, KTT, LLA).

  • Services: 4 nights in the Hotel Prästgården, in a renovated Hotel-Stuga with a double room/bath in hotel standard, or in one of the newly renovated cabins with two bedrooms and 4 beds, bath/shower/WC, kitchen and small living room with TV.
