Hetta Huskies offers both short and multi-day safaris from our farm base, 220km inside the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland. Whilst the majority of our sled-dog safaris meander through the northernmost reaches of Europe's ancient boreal (Taiga) forests, some of our multi-day safaris also venture up onto the high plateaus of the Arctic tundra.
Our farm started to operate in the winter of 2008-2009 and has become known as one of the leading farms in terms of dog health and welfare standards. Indeed, we are working hard to establish best practices and codes of conduct which can be replicated across Scandinavia.

Explore one of the oldest and most popular national parks in Finland in the grandeur of the pristine fells of Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park in Lapland. Here the ancient rounded fells, once as tall as mountains, are still massive and dramatic. What they lack in height, they make up for in untamed splendour. The peace and quiet of the wilderness with the cleanest air and water in the world seduces you with breath-taking 360-degree vistas. It’s a magical place that entices visitors to move at its pace and rhythm. The hustle and bustle of routine life is quickly left behind.

There are 500 kilometres of marked trails in one of Finland’s oldest and most famous hiking areas during the wondrous nightless night when the sun never sets. Trails are well-marked and there are multiple circle routes to suit different kind of users. Trails are also open for mountain-biking. In winter you can go cross-country skiing on around 500 kilometres of ski tracks. or put on snowshoes and witness the life-changing display of the aurora borealis, the colourful Northern Lights that dance across the fell tops. Throughout the year there are open day trip huts available for rest stops.

THE HEART OF THE ARCTIC
Situated in the heart of the arctic, the mountain lodge exhibits a deep-rooted connection to Norwegian farming and cabin culture. On average, Norwegians spend 60 days a year in cabins. This is a part of their cultural heritage. In earlier times the farmers brought their livestock into the mountains on pasture during the summer, and while herding the cows and sheep they lived in small cabins. At the mountain lodge they lived by the food they made, the berries they gathered, and whatever the nature offered them. At Bjørnfjell Mountain Lodge we want to give you the opportunity to take part in this Norwegian cabin culture. Stay comfortable inside our cozy cabins or in a room in the main lodge while enjoying the surrounding nature.

We are a small family business created from a passion for sled dogs and nature. Since the mid-80s Holmen has been home for four-legged athletes who have participated in Europe's longest dog races and taken guests from all over the world out on Arctic adventures. Holmen Husky lies close to the Alta river only 15 minutes from Alta airport by car. The place is close to the city but feels far from it with its rural location with low light pollution during the northern light season. Holmen Husky was created by Kari Jæger & Eirik Nilsen who both moved to Alta to pursue their dream of racing sled dogs in Finnmarkslopet. Eirik is 3 time champion of Finnmarkslopet and have finished more than 70 races in his career. Today Holmen Husky is operated by their son Brage Nilsen Jæger who now pursues in their footsteps with both sled dog racing and tourism. We have around 100 Alaskan huskies and unique Lavvo and Dome accommodation (18 bed spots) with spam, reception, lounge and dining facilities nearby. This is a place for both relaxation and adventure. Whether you dream of watching the northern lights from the comfort of a warm bed, or exploring nature with a team of huskies, we have what you need. Next to nothing, close to everything. This is Arctic living.
