Labor dispute could disrupt operations in Finland's major ski destinations

The Finnish Service Union PAM has announced a strike in the ski center industry, set to begin on March 3, 2025, at 00:01 and end on March 4, 2025, at 23:59. The strike will affect some of Finland’s largest ski resorts, including Levi, Ruka, Ylläs and Pyhä. The labor action could have a significant impact on winter tourism.

PAM is demanding better working conditions and higher wages for employees in the ski industry. According to the union, the current employment contracts no longer reflect the increasing demands of the sector. If negotiations fail, the strike could lead to disruptions in ski lift operations, restaurants, and various tourist services.

Potential impact on tourism

Finland is one of the most popular winter destinations for skiers, snowboarders, and winter travelers. If the strike proceeds as planned, it could severely impact operations at multiple ski resorts, potentially affecting international visitors as well. The timing of the strike could be particularly disruptive during the peak winter season.

Negotiations between the union and employers are still ongoing. Both parties are working to reach a resolution to prevent major disruptions in ski resort operations. However, travelers should stay informed about possible service interruptions in the affected areas.

Whether the strike will take place and to what extent remains uncertain. The coming days will be crucial in determining the future working conditions in Finland’s ski resort industry.
