Scandic expands in Tromsø with new economy hotel concept

A new Scandic Go hotel underlines Tromsø’s position as a high-growth destination in Northern Norway.

Nordic hotel group Scandic is further strengthening its presence in Tromsø with plans for a new Scandic Go hotel. The project is scheduled to begin after summer 2026, with an opening planned for 2028. The hotel will feature approximately 170 rooms in a central downtown location.

Responding to demand in the economy segment

Scandic Go is designed for travellers seeking affordability, smart design and seamless self-service. The concept reflects changing travel patterns, particularly in urban destinations where guests value flexibility, central access and efficient accommodation rather than full-service offerings.

A destination hosting all Scandic brands

Once completed, Tromsø will become the first non-capital city to host all three Scandic brands. The new hotel will be part of a mixed-use development including residential units and municipal services, reinforcing the city’s role as a modern, multi-layered destination.

For tour operators and travel planners, the expansion signals confidence in Tromsø’s long-term tourism potential. Increased capacity in the economy segment supports a wider range of products, from short city breaks to Northern Lights and nature-based itineraries, while offering greater pricing and packaging flexibility.
