Scandic Hotels, one of the leading hotel operators in the Nordic region, is expanding its footprint in Germany. The company has signed a long-term, revenue-based lease agreement with AXA Investment Managers to open a 174-room hotel in Stuttgart. Set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, the hotel will undergo a full renovation to meet Scandic’s brand and operational standards.
As one of Germany’s largest cities and a major European financial hub, Stuttgart is an ideal location for Scandic’s expansion. Known for its strong automotive and technology industries, Stuttgart is also home to a growing startup scene. The city’s hotel market has experienced steady growth due to increased tourism and demand from business travelers. Scandic aims to capitalize on this by establishing a strong presence to cater to visitors attending meetings, events, and leisure activities.
"This marks Scandic’s eighth hotel in Germany, reinforcing our presence in a key financial center where we see growing demand from both business and leisure travelers," said Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group. "Our partnership with AXA Investment Managers, a new collaborator for us, is a significant step forward in expanding our brand."
Located near Stuttgart’s central station and the bustling Europaviertel commercial area, the hotel will offer convenient access to the city’s key attractions, offices, and transportation hubs. Once renovated, it will feature vibrant dining options, extensive meeting facilities, a gym, and a parking garage—meeting the needs of both business and leisure guests.
"We see great opportunities in Stuttgart," added Michel Schutzbach, Scandic’s Country Managing Director for Germany and Poland. "Our partnership with AXA will enable us to transform this property into a destination where guests can experience Scandic’s renowned hospitality and enjoy its prime location."
Scandic is committed to sustainability, and the Stuttgart property will be no exception. During the renovation, technical upgrades and sustainability initiatives will be implemented. The hotel will also be certified under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, which is the official sustainability certification for the Nordic countries.
With this new addition, Scandic will operate eight hotels across Germany, with a total capacity of 2,635 rooms. The Stuttgart project marks a significant milestone in Scandic’s continued growth in the German market and its efforts to offer high-quality, sustainable hotel experiences in key European cities.
