Rethinking Fjord Norway: Small changes, new possibilities

Written by Anja | Sep 28, 2026, 8:28:09 AM

Product development doesn’t always mean finding a new destination. Sometimes one new partner, experience or extra night can make a difference

Bergen is already in the programme. The fjords too. The itinerary works, trusted partners are in place and guests are happy. So, does anything really need to change?

Perhaps not. Product development doesn’t have to mean searching for a new destination every year or rebuilding a successful itinerary from scratch.

Sometimes small changes create new possibilities: an experience that fits your target group perfectly. An accommodation that makes a stop more interesting. An activity that gives guests a reason to stay another night. Or a new partner who opens up a combination you hadn’t considered before.

Perhaps the question isn’t: What is missing from my Fjord Norway programme?

But rather: What could make it even better?

Turning one night into two

Many Norway itineraries follow well-established routes. And there is nothing wrong with that. If a route works, there is no need to reinvent it.

The interesting part is discovering where an existing programme could evolve.

Perhaps a place currently serves mainly as an overnight stop on the way to the next fjord. Then you discover an activity that fits your guests perfectly. Suddenly, there is a reason to stay longer.

Maybe you come across an accommodation that works for a different target group. A new transport partner solves a logistical challenge. Or a local experience adds another layer to a familiar route.

None of these changes requires rebuilding the entire programme. But just one of them could make a difference.

You don’t need 20 new partners

That is also where a B2B workshop can be valuable.

Around 20 Fjord Norway partners are already confirmed for the Digital Sales Workshop on 1 December, with more to follow.

Of course, the aim is not to leave the workshop with 20 new business relationships.

One or two genuinely useful new connections might be all you need.

A partner who fills a gap in your programme. A product that works for a particular target group. An idea that creates an additional overnight stay. Or a contact that might not be relevant today, but becomes exactly what you need when planning the next season.

Who could become part of your next Fjord Norway programme?

The Digital Sales Workshop Fjord Norway brings together businesses from different parts of the tourism industry, including accommodation providers, activity companies, destinations, transport partners and DMCs.

It is precisely this mix that makes the conversations interesting.

After all, an itinerary rarely depends on one product alone. Accommodation, transport, experiences and destinations need to work together.

Perhaps you want to add more outdoor experiences to an existing route. Maybe you are looking for a different type of accommodation. You might want to reach a new target group or explore more opportunities outside the classic summer season.

Or perhaps you don’t yet know exactly what you are looking for. Sometimes the best product idea begins with a conversation.

18 conversations in one working day

Finding the time for those conversations can be the difficult part.

Instead of spending hours researching individual products and contacts, the workshop gives you the opportunity to hold up to 18 pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings in one day.

Matchmaking starts on 16 November, allowing you to choose the companies most relevant to your business.

The meetings are an opportunity to get straight to the practical questions:

Does this product suit my clients? How could it fit into an existing itinerary? Which target groups does it work for? When is it available? Could it become a new building block in one of our programmes?

Sometimes a direct conversation can answer what ten open browser tabs cannot.
