Norway experienced a record-breaking 16.7 million overnight stays during the summer months, the highest number ever recorded since the Statistic Norway (SSB) began tracking data in 2016..
The weakened Norwegian krone has likely played a significant role in boosting tourism. International visitors got more value for their money, while many Norwegians opted for domestic holidays as foreign travel became more expensive. "Both Norwegians and foreign tourists have benefited from favorable conditions," said Kristin Aasestad, senior advisor at SSB.
Nordland saw the largest increase with 143,000 more overnight stays compared to last year. The region’s stunning natural landscapes attracted record numbers of foreign tourists. The unexpectedly good weather also enticed more Norwegians to head north for their vacations.
Oslo and Vestland also experienced significant growth in overnight stays. Oslo ranked second in terms of increase, followed closely by Vestland.
In contrast, the southern regions of Agder and Vestfold saw a slight decline in overnight stays, while other parts of the country thrived during the tourism wave.
